Delivering confidence through experience and expertise
Gilfillan Murray Consulting Ltd brings together more than 40 years of post-degree construction experience, including over 25 years working in client-side technical and building safety roles across residential, commercial, healthcare, education and public sector projects. Our experience covers both new build developments and complex refurbishment or remediation programmes, with a practical understanding of how buildings are designed, constructed, managed and upgraded in real-world environments.
We have extensive experience in both active and passive fire protection systems, including fire alarms, smoke ventilation, compartmentation, fire stopping, structural fire protection and wider building safety controls. This includes technical involvement in M&E coordination, compliance reviews and construction quality assurance.
In recent years, we have also developed significant expertise in external wall systems, cladding remediation, façade risk assessments and compartmentation reviews in line with PAS 9980, Approved Document B, BS 9991, BS 9999 and wider Building Safety Act requirements. Our approach combines practical construction knowledge with clear, evidence-based fire safety advice that supports realistic and proportionate solutions for clients, residents and project teams.

Nationwide support with uncompromising professional standards
While we maintain a small number of primary direct client relationships, our work regularly supports a much wider network of organisations across the UK through collaborative project delivery, consultancy frameworks and specialist technical support. This includes work associated with local authorities, housing associations, developers, healthcare providers, education providers, managing agents and government-linked projects throughout England, Wales and Scotland. This breadth of experience underpins our strong understanding of the practical, regulatory and operational challenges faced across different sectors and building types.
Our services are delivered in accordance with applicable UK fire safety legislation, recognised guidance and relevant British Standards. Depending on the scope of the project, this may include the Building Safety Act 2022, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, Approved Document B (Volumes 1 and 2), BS 9991, BS 9999, BS 7974, BS 5839, BS 5266, PAS 9980, PAS 79-1, BS 9792:2025 and PAS 79-2 where applicable to legacy assessments or existing project documentation. We also work in alignment with relevant EN standards, Building Regulations and sector-specific guidance where required.
Gilfillan Murray Consulting Ltd maintains membership and engagement with recognised professional and industry bodies including the British Safety Council, the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE), the Association for Specialist Fire Protection (ASFP) and the Fire Protection Association (FPA). These memberships support our commitment to ongoing professional development, industry best practice and current regulatory understanding.
